DIPTIINOX® ER2209: The Premier GTAW Solution for Duplex 2205 Welding

The AWS A5.9 ER2209 Filler Metal is a critically alloyed consumable specifically designed to match the properties of Duplex 2205 stainless steel. Duplex alloys derive their strength and corrosion resistance from a balanced austenite-ferrite microstructure (typically 50/50). The challenge in welding these alloys is maintaining this balance and preventing the formation of detrimental phases like Sigma phase, which can compromise corrosion resistance and ductility. ER2209 is formulated with higher levels of Nickel and, most importantly, Nitrogen (0.08% to 0.20%) to promote the formation of austenite during the rapid cooling of the weld pool. This ensures the weld metal provides strength and corrosion resistance equal to or exceeding that of the Duplex 2205 base metal. It is available as TIG Rod (GTAW), and upon request, as MIG Wire (GMAW) and Submerged Arc Coil (SAW).
